In the department of fascinating possibilities: tomorrow at 2pm there will be a forum at the Athens Public Library to discuss future rail travel options for Southeast Ohio. The distant prospect of a light rail line from Athens to Columbus appears to be the main topic of discussion. I'm encouraging anyone who likes trains and recognizes the potential economy and comfort of mass rail transit to show their face, even for only a half hour or so -- until State planners get the message that Southeast Ohioans are really ready for a passenger rail network, they're going to keep the idea on the furthest of back burners. With a packed panel of local planners, officials and engineers, you can expect to leave informed and maybe even entertained. Prior weekend commitments will keep me from attending, but if anyone cares to send a rundown of how the meeting goes to athwatch@gmail.com, I'd be thrilled.
